Devil's Den

Took a walk in nearby Nature Conservancy preserve, Devil's Den in Easton, only three miles or so, but closest thing to a hike since my back injury a few years back.  Nice to get out in the woods in spring-like sixty degree temperatures.
Bright sunshine made the moss on the rock outcroppings sparkle....
...but one has to get up close to appreciate the textures...
...another beautiful day this Thanksgiving 2011 break.

Thanksgiving 2011 paddles

A couple of nice paddles on some bright, sunny November days.  Thanksgiving morning, a pre-turkey cruise out of the Saugatuck in Westport, circumnavigating the Norwalk Islands: Cockoenie, Goose, Copps, Shea, Sheffield, Chimon, Grassy, Calf Pasture, Sprite and back up the river.  Beautiful calm day amongst some Brant's geese, a few unusually inquisitive loons and some pintails.

Then a ConnYak pick-up paddle on Black Friday, out of the Branford River and over to the Farm River in East Haven.  Just enough of a southerly breeze to bump up the water for play and a little surfing.  More Brant's geese, some old squaw, loons and cormorants.  Much to be thankful about!
