Paddled today around Fishers Island at the eastern end of Long Island Sound.

A flat summer day tamed the infamous tidal rip (the Race) at the western end, but we paddled past a reminder of what another day might have presented.  Beautiful day on the water.
During the first week of August, returned to old haunts in Canso area of Nova Scotia with friends.  Plenty of good paddling despite several days of fog, wind and occasional rain.

Camera was acting up, but some nice shots of pitcher plants found on a walk along the hilly shore in Whitehead.

The hillsides reminded me of the alpine zones at the top of Adirondack peaks....

Paddled through Haida Gwaii in the Queen Charlotte Islands of British Columbia for fifteen days with Kingfisher Adventures.  Amazing trip in so many ways: Haida culture, scenery, wildlife (especially in the intertidal zones).  Conditions were fairly moderate... we'd expected perhaps two days of sunshine, with lots of rain and wind, but the mix was the reverse, and there was hardly a day we couldn't be out on the water.
The Quicktime slideshow is an experiment..... doesn't really do the photos justice, but gives a good sense of the rhythm of our days there.
